Open Cities

President Obama has been using Drupal’s open source application for his recovery.gov platform.

I think there’s real potential for Tasmania and Hobart in particular to position itself as an open city to build participation and model Web 2.0 and 3.0 – like Washington has done with their ‘Open Democracy

New York City has started a Cultural Innovation Fund which awards two-year grants, ranging from $50,000 to $250,000, funded by the Rockerfeller Foundation for groundbreaking initiatives that enrich the City’s cultural life and help to ensure the continued economic strength and diversity of the City’s creative sector. The focus is on creative expression and innovation, and the impact and influence creativity has towards social progress. There’s some really nice examples of the cross over between science, art, innovation and new technology here.
